EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATOR POSITIONS:

FUNCTION:

Early Childhood Educators plan and organize activities for infants, toddlers, pre-school, kindergarten, and school-age children. Early Childhood Educator Assistants provide care and guidance to children under the supervision of Early Childhood Educators. Educators and Assistants lead children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Read, sign, and acknowledge all Child’s Paradise Policies and Procedures and represent in accordance with the policies and procedures.

Always maintain professionalism.

Follow and maintain The College of ECE Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice.

Plan and implement the daily Program of developmental experiences for a group of children and recreational and educational activities for different age groups. These activities should be based on observed children’s interests.

Document observations and experiences.

Provide care and protection for all children to meet their individual needs.

Communicate openly, honestly, and respectfully with parents, co-workers, Child Care Administrators and Supervisors, and with external service providers as needed to promote the successful inclusion of all children into the Programs.

Treat all colleagues with professionalism.

Inform parents, coworkers, and CC Supervisor of upcoming workshops or topics of interest.

Assist families with the transitions between Programs and between Child Care and School

Be approachable and empathetic towards the families in our care and treat all families with dignity and respect.

Ensure all issues of concern are dealt with in a timely and responsible manner, following grievance policy and/or centre policies as applicable.

Ensure all families feel comfortable with the care that their child is receiving.

Treat all children equally, while focusing on and building the strengths of each individual child.

Ensure all children are given the opportunity to correct behaviours or mistakes.

Provide opportunities for creative expression through the media of art, dramatic play, music, and physical fitness.

Arrange rooms and furniture for lunch and rest periods to best suit the interests, ages and developmental levels of the children in care.

Maintain a clean and healthy physical environment.

Maintain program rooms and yards in good condition, document cleaning, inspections etc. (playground, sanitary) as needed.

Submit verbal and written observations on children to supervisor as needed and/or requested.

Ensure that the Childcare Supervisor is fully informed regarding all issues involving the families, children, and the Program.

Assist the supervisor in maintaining records of children and daily attendance.

Assist in the development of Monthly Newsletters.

Make observations and accommodations to improve the quality and effectiveness of the Program Statement

Report all perceived Program needs to the Child Care Supervisor

Keep informed of current research, trends, and developments in the field of Inclusive Early Childhood Education.

Help children learn to adapt to and cope with real-life situations.

Help children to become independent and develop appropriate habits for their developmental level in the areas of self-help, such as eating, dressing, toileting, and naptimes.

Make daily observations of the health of children, and reports conditions needing attention; administer first aid treatment when needed.

Observe and document the children’s emotional, physical, social, and intellectual development as well as health and wellness.

Participate in parent-teacher meetings as required and talk with parents daily.

Supervise assistant teachers and aids in their daily contact with children.

Ensure that equipment and materials are accessible and in good condition to encourage maximum use by children.

Attend professional development seminars and conferences as approved by the Childcare Supervisor and shares this information with other staff and the Childcare Supervisor.

Work with colleagues to develop the potential of the children in the group.

Bring to the attention of the Childcare Supervisor adjustment difficulties, such as difficulty of separation from the home and inability to adapt to a group situation.

Attend and participate in all staff meetings.

Represent Child’s Paradise in accordance with the Centre’s policies and procedures while maintaining professionalism with families.

Maintain registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators.

EDUCATION AND REQUIREMENTS (Early Childhood Educator Position): 

Diploma in Early Childhood Education or equivalent

Registration with the College of Early Childhood Educators

Current CPR and First Aid Certificate

Immunization record and TB Test

Current Vulnerable Sector Check.

Knowledge of ELECT and How Does Learning Happen Framework and Pedagogy

EXPERIENCE AND/OR ABILITIES:

Previous experience working with children.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal

Excellent time management and organizational skills

Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.

Sensitivity and respect for individual differences

Resource teacher/advanced studies certificate, an asset

Bilingualism, an asset.
