Sunscreen Use & Sun Safety Tips

| › About Us Index ‹ || « Return to previous page |

 ·       Suggested Protective Clothing -loose long-sleeved shirts, wide-brimmed hats and sunglasses

·       Apply sunscreen -liberally at least 15-20 minutes prior to direct sun exposure

·       Try to avoid direct sun during peak hours of 11am to 3pm

Children require sunscreen from Spring to Fall, and when the UV Index is 3 or greater. Parents are to apply sunscreen to their children prior to drop-off in the morning and inform staff that the child has sunscreen applied. Staff will document on Sunscreen Check that they have verified sunscreen application and/or applied sunscreen to each child in the morning and in the afternoon. If a parent has forgotten to apply sunscreen, they will be directed to the Sunscreen Station in the front foyer of the Centre. If sunscreen is applied less than 15 minutes prior to outdoor play, staff will encourage the child to play in shaded/gazebo areas. Staff of the Centre will re-apply sunscreen after sleep time for outdoor afternoon play. It is recommended that sunscreen be reapplied after 4 hours or wet play. If 4 hours have passed since the sunscreen application and/or if the child has had water play to the degree that staff feel the child is no longer protected, staff will reapply. Parents are encouraged to send a sunhat to protect ears and back of neck.
